I just finished my geometry assignment and planned on procrastinating until tonight to complete my remaining homework. Then I thought, why don't I feel like doing more? The answer varies per person. Some say the work's too complicated, and others are too tired or need help to think straight. In this post, I'm going to tell you a few ways I manage to get my work done and have time to spare.
Procrastination, poor management skills, and no motivation are three factors that lessen your work's productivity. They confuse your mind and force you to increase the time needed to do your work. Often, it makes it so you cant do your work at all, overwhelming you. I procrastinate a lot, but these strategies help me get back on track.
Organizing your work
Keeping track of your assignments for each class is a very effective way of ensuring you pace yourself correctly to finish your work. For example, if I knew I had three assignments of one type, I'd probably work faster on those rather than in a class in which I only have one assignment. Use a Google Calendar or write down whatever you do on your phone or paper.
The importance of breaks
When doing work, overloading your brain with so much information from each class often unmotivates you. Instead, do some assignments to the point where you physically or mentally cannot work anymore, and do something that does motivate you. Something fun. For example, reading a book, scrolling through social media, taking a walk, or having a snack, then going back to doing your work and repeating this process until all your work is finished.
You can also give yourself time intervals to work on assignments if you take a break every five minutes. This is a method that works really well for many people. In this method, you can set a timer for however long you want to work, and when it goes off, set another timer for 5 or 10 minutes and take a break. Once this timer finishes, go back to complete your work for a set amount of time and repeat this process over and over again. (This is like the 'doing my work until the candle stops burning' trend, but more effective).
Effectively using free time
You can also finish some homework during class time if you have a free period or are not doing anything in that class. It's tempting to talk to friends or be on your phone during that time, but you can multitask. Turn on Netflix and do your work simultaneously, or make conversation and write away. Just think to yourself, 'Would I rather finish my work in school or leave it and worry about it when I get home?' I'm sure you'll get your answer reasonably quick.
Conclusion
Doing work is uninviting, but the absolute happiness you feel when you have no work left doesn't compare to putting off your work. Just know how to pace yourself and track what you need to finish. It's not hard to do work; you have the willpower to make yourself want to do it.
